General Information

Srinagar is known as ‘Venice of the East’ because the lakes are lifeline of this beautiful ancient city. The floating house boats give the impression of city on water. The building along the shore seems in comparison of PISA tower. There are many lakes around the city including Dal Lake – famous for its houseboats – and Nigeen Lake. Wular lake and manasbal lakes are located to the north of Srinagar.  Jammu and Kashmir (usually shortened to J&K), is one of its most Fabtastic and beautiful.
It also has three distinct cultures that falls in different three regions. The South West area of J&K is Hindu religion majority area. It has ancient Hindu temples and it is also winter capital of the state. The North across area, known as Valley is Muslim populated area and has a clear impression of Islamic culture. Finally, to the northeast, this area widely known as Winter Desert and rugged area is under Buddhist religion. The houses and forts have impression of Tibetan culture. F. Knight (1860) closely describes the beauty of Kashmir and its ancient importance during his expedition to Kashmir & Ladakh.
